ロンドン・オリンピックで演奏のエミリー・サンデーが２ＭＡＸを使ってワールドツアーに（Sensaphonics 2MAX powers Emeli Sandé on tour）

スコットランド出身のシンガーソングライター、エミリー・サンデーはファンを急速に増やしていて、ハードなスケジュールのツアーをこなしているパワフルなボーカルです。２００９年からナンバーワン・シングルを３つ持ち、イギリスでいくつも受賞しました（２０１２年のクリティック・チョイスと２０１３年のイギリス・アルバム・オブ・ザ・イヤー）。サンデーは２０１２年ロンドン・オリンピックで始めて国際的なステージに現れ、開会式と閉会式の両方でパフォーマンスをしました。

サウンド・エンジニアのダラン・コナーは過去２年間サンデーを担当していますが、彼女にとって最高のイヤモニとしてセンサフォニクスの2MAXを勧めました。「2MAXはとてもフラットなサウンドで正確な周波数バランスです。俺の意見としては必要不可欠だ。」

彼は言います。「体験した他のブランドのものと比べて特に低周波数の音がしっかりと聴こえるし、高音も正確だ。柔軟なシリコンがぴっちりと（耳に）蓋をしていてどんなに騒々しい環境でも音を隔絶してくれる。」

サンデーの従来のアクリル製のイヤモニターからセンサフォニクスのシリコン製のイヤモニターに移行するのはスムーズでした。「自分の声がとても柔らかく聴こえるのがすごく好きだと彼女は言います。シリコンの着け心地も良いと言っていたよ。」とコナーは話します。

コナーは以前スウェーデンのエレクトロ・ポップの女王とも呼ばれるポップ歌手であるロビン（Robyn）のモニター・エンジニアをして働いていた時も似たような経験をしました。

「ロビンは2MAXをとても気に入っていた。俺たちは彼女の主となるエレクトリック・ダンス・トラックを再生したときの音が好きだったし、バンドから彼女の声を切り離して自然な歌声にできることが楽しかった。」

彼は言います。

「エミリーを始めて聴いたとき、彼女の音楽のほとんどは、例えば『ヘブン』のように激しいドラムを伴ったダンス的なものだった。だから自然な選択だった。最初のころ、俺は観衆の前でたくさんのモニター・ミックスをしていた。俺自身すでに2MAXを持っていたから、彼女自身の耳にも同じものを装着して彼女がまさに聴いているものをモニターするのがいいと思ったんだ。」

去年ローラ・デイビスがモニター・エンジニアとして雇われてから、今や状況は変わりました。仕事をしやすくするために、デイビスもエミリーのイヤモニを使って2MAXでミックスしています。

ダラン・コナーはツアーに適した頑丈さと、センサフォニクスからの現場サポートにも感謝しています。

「今2MAXを４年使っているけれど、ケーブルが壊れた事がないよ。一度だけHFが故障した事があるけれど、水が入ってしまったらしい。暑い環境で汗をかきすぎたんだね！サービスはいつもプロフェッショナルで友好的で素早いよ。実のところ、シカゴの（センサフォニクスの）オフィスにいるクラウディア（窓口担当）に届くように大声で叫びたいね。彼女は本当にプロフェッショナルなアドバイスをくれて素晴らしい。すごく感謝しているよ。」

エミリー・サンデーは現在ヨーロッパでのフェスティバルを終えようとしていますが、その後アメリカに来ます。「ロラパローザを含むフェスティバルとテレビショーから始まるよ。」コナーは言います。「それからイギリスに戻ってもっとフェスティバルをやって、１０月にはまたアメリカでショーをするよ。楽しみだね！」

Scottish recording artist and songwriter Emeli Sandé is a powerful vocalist with a fast-growing fandom and a hard-charging tour schedule. With three #1 singles since 2009 and winning multiple Brit Awards (including 2012 Critic’s Choice and 2013 British Album of the Year), Sandé first came into global prominence at the 2012 London Olympics, performing at both the Opening and Closing ceremonies.

Sound engineer Darren Connor has worked with Sandé for the past two years, and recommended the Sensaphonics 2MAX as the best in-ears for her needs. “The 2MAX have a very flat, accurate frequency response, which is essential in my opinion,” he notes. “I particularly like how tight the low end frequencies feel compared to other brands I have experience with, as well as the fidelity at the top end, too. The pliability of the silicone earpiece creates a nice seal and so isolation is achieved even in the loudest environments.”

Sandé’s previous earphones were also silicone, but a different brand, so the transition to Sensaphonics was an easy one. “Her initial comments after the switch were how warm they made her voice sound, which she really liked, and she has also mentioned the comfort factor of the silicone,” Connor reports.

Previously, Connor had a similar experience working as monitor engineer for Robyn, a Swedish pop singer. “Robyn was very happy with the 2MAX. We enjoyed the sound I was able to reproduce of her predominantly electronic dance tracks and still was able to keep her voice natural and separate from the band,” he says. “When I first heard Emeli, most of her tracks had a dance edge to them, like the Massive Attack drum sample in ‘Heaven’ for example, so it seemed like a natural choice. Early on, I was mixing monitors on a lot of shows from front of house, and as I owned a set of 2MAX already, then it also seemed sensible to be able to monitor exactly what she was hearing with same components in her ears.” That situation has now changed, with Laura Davis hiring on as monitor engineer for the past year. To make her job easier, Davis also mirrors the artist’s earphones and mixes on the 2MAX.

Darren Connor also appreciates the tour-ready ruggedness and field support he gets from Sensaphonics. “Having used the 2MAX for four years now, I’ve never had a cable go bad, and only had one HF driver fail, apparently due to water damage – maybe I sweat a bit in hot environments! The service has always been professional, friendly, and efficient. In fact, let me give a huge shout out to Claudia in the office. She has been fantastic with all her communications and professional advice, which is really appreciated.”

Emeli Sandé is currently completing a run of European festivals, after which she will be coming to America. “We start with a festival and TV tour, including Lollapalooza,” says Connor. “Then it’s back to the UK for more festivals followed by another USA run through October. Looking forward to it!”
